Surgery Waiting Room

The Volunteer in the Surgery Waiting Room assists the staff member by escorting patients or family members to the Pre-Op Room, comforting family members while their loved ones are undergoing surgery, keep the waiting room tidy, providing beverages and snacks to family members, and escorting family members to the Recovery Room area.

This service area is offered five days a week. The hours are 7-11 a.m. This volunteer needs to be able to tolerate a lot of walking and must be good with people.

Courier

The courier Volunteer travels from department to department delivering items or running errands within the hospital as needed. This position requires the Volunteer to be capable of doing a great deal of walking.

This service is offered five days a week with two shifts available each day. The hours are 9 a.m. - Noon or Noon - 3 p.m.

Information Desk

The Volunteer at the information desk is responsible for assisting visitors and clergy to locate a patient room number by accessing information on a computer. This is the only Volunteer position that has access to a computer. Minimal computer is required. This position requires an out-going personality.

This service is provided seven days a week with three shifts available each day. The hours are 9 a.m. - Noon, Noon - 3 p.m., or 3-6 p.m.

Gift Shop

Volunteers in the Gift Shop are responsible for operating the cash register, assisting customers, pricing new items if needed and displaying new items if needed. This position requires an out-going personality.

This service is provided five days a week with three shifts available: 9 a.m. - Noon, Noon - 3 p.m., or 3-6 p.m. Weekend shifts are available: Noon - 3 p.m. or 3-6 p.m.

Patient Escort

The Volunteer escorts patients from the Admitting office to the Surgery Waiting Room, Laboratory, Radiology, Cardiology Services or where ever the patient needs to go.

This position must be able to tolerate a great deal of walking and have a pleasant personality.

This service is offered five days a week, one shift each day: 7-11 a.m.

Clerical Assistance

Volunteers have been helpful to various offices in helping with minor office duties, such as: filing, assembling packets, or other clerical functions.

OSF MyChart

Volunteers will be placed at OSF Medical Group to assist patients in signing up for OSF MyChart.
