10 Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating

Woman with Santa hat happy about holiday eating tipsIt’s that time of year again. The holiday season is a time to celebrate with family and friends. Unfortunately, for many it also becomes a time for over-eating and weight gain.

Here are 10 tips for healthy holiday eating!

10. Practice portion control and downsize your dish! Grab a smaller plate, and you’ll eat less.

9.  Eat slowly and enjoy each bite’s flavors and textures. You will eat less but feel just as satisfied.

8.  Choose water or unsweetened tea over other sweetened beverages offered.

7.  Attend celebrations with a partially full belly to help ward off the urge to splurge.

6.  Fill your plate with lots of colors – fruit kabobs, veggie sticks, bean dips, yogurt parfaits, roasted or steamed veggies, and colorful salads.

5.  Save room for physical activity, and take a walk after you celebrate.

4.  Burn a few extra calories and help clean up! Do dishes, wipe down tables, or vacuum up messes.

3.  Start a family game of twister, charades, or activity-based video games.

2.  Enjoy the company more than the food and engage in conversation – it’s calorie-free!

1.  Start healthier traditions this year, and encourage others to join you! Start with healthier holiday eating!
