HALO SleepSacks

The OSF St. Joseph Auxiliary donates a HALO® SleepSack® to every infant born at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.

The HALO SleepSack doubles as a swaddle and a blanket. The HALO SleepSack wearable blanket is superior to loose blankets that can cover a baby’s face and interfere with breathing.

The HALO® SleepSack® was developed by a parent who lost an infant to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

SIDS is the unexpected death of an infant, one month to one year old, where the cause of death remains undetermined after an autopsy and death scene investigation.

Safe practices such as swaddling an infant can help prevent SIDS. Swaddling also helps newborns sleep easier by immobilizing their arms preventing Moro, the startle reflex.

HALO Bassinest

OSF St. Joseph Medical Center is one of the first hospitals in Illinois to offer a new concept in the world of bassinets for newborns – the HALO® Bassinest®.

It’s the only hospital bassinet designed to safely keep baby closer to mom during those first important moments.

The HALO Bassinest is equipped to swivel 360 degrees providing convenient access to the baby from bed, which is ideal for moms recovering from a C-section or with physical disabilities. It also can be used to support breastfeeding efforts and bonding between mom and baby.

A clear, retractable side wall provides mom better accessibility to care for her baby. The baby also has its own safe sleep space even though mom is right here next to their little one.
