What is pediatric gynecology?

Pediatric and adolescent gynecology is gynecological care designed especially for children, teens and young adults. It is primarily an outpatient specialty, focusing on concerns such as irregular periods, puberty development, pelvic pain or other changes that can happen as your child grows.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll check in at the front desk. Most families see the same pediatric OB/GYN throughout their care, helping your child build comfort and trust over time.

During the appointment, your provider will review your child’s medical history, talk through symptoms and answer your questions. They’ll explain every step in language your child can understand and ask permission before touching or examining them.

Most first visits do not include a pelvic or gynecologic exam. If an exam or imaging is recommended, we’ll walk your family through what it involves and make sure your child feels safe and supported. Our providers work to ensure they tailor every visit to your child’s age and comfort level.
