Founded in 1974, the Regional Burn Unit at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, provides advanced treatment for burns of all types and severities. As the only burn center in the region and one of only five in Illinois, we are uniquely equipped to deliver specialized care.

Dedicated Unit for Adults and Children

Our 14-bed trauma and burn unit is specifically designed to treat both adult and pediatric patients. We care for a wide range of complex injuries and conditions, including:

  • Thermal burns (fire, steam, hot liquids)
  • Chemical and electrical burns
  • Inhalation injuries
  • Frostbite
  • Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and other complex dermatologic conditions

Stathis Poulakidas, MD Stathis Poulakidas, MD, is the medical director of the Regional Burn Unit at OSF Saint Anthony. He is also a nationally recognized surgeon and expert in adult and pediatric burn care.

Specialized Surgical Expertise

Our surgeons lead the way in using the latest surgical techniques to reduce scarring, prevent complications and promote faster recovery. In addition to bedside care, they also educate emergency providers and first responders across the region – ensuring that burn patients receive expert attention from the moment of injury.

Outpatient Burn Clinic

Our Outpatient Burn Clinic provides expert follow-up care for patients recovering from burn injuries. The clinic focuses on ongoing wound management, rehabilitation and long-term recovery support to ensure the best possible outcomes.

The clinic’s services include:

  • Complex dressing changes
  • Scar assessment and management
  • Compression garment measurement and fitting
  • Coordinated therapy and recovery planning
