Volunteer Opportunities

Qualifications and Requirements for adult volunteers:

• Minimum age of 18
• High school graduate or GED
• Provide proof of Tdap vaccination received within the last 10 years and the flu shot during flu season. If there is no documentation, OSF will provide these vaccinations. OSF will also provide TB testing and lab titers for MMR, Varicella and Hepatitis B.
• Have a listening ear and loving, caring heart
• Have a desire to serve others
• In good physical and mental health
• Agree to volunteer one day per week (same day, time, and area)
• Can abide by the policies and regulations of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and Volunteer Services Department.

Adult Volunteer Opportunities at OSF St. Joseph

• Clinical & Clerical Support – These volunteers assist various hospital departments with administrative and non-clinical tasks, helping staff with clerical work, organizing supplies, preparing materials, and supporting daily operations to enhance patient care.
• Emergency Department Volunteer – These volunteers support the daily operations of the Emergency Department by helping maintain clean, stocked, and organized patient care areas. They assist with preparing rooms, restocking supplies, transporting wheelchairs, and delivering items to patient care areas, helping ensure smooth workflow and a positive experience for patients and families.
• Eucharistic Minister
• Information Desk & Transport Services – These volunteers serve as friendly ambassadors, welcoming guests, answering phones, and helping people find their way throughout the hospital and other OSF locations. They also function as transporters, assisting with safely escorting visitors and transporting patients in wheelchairs throughout the facility.
• Karing Partners – Registered therapy dogs and their owners bring comfort and smiles to patients and are among the most popular visitors. If your dog is registered, or you would like to learn more, please contact (309) 665-4901.
• Music Volunteers – Music provides soothing comfort to patients and staff. Volunteers play instruments such as piano, violin, and guitar for patients on various units.
• Patient Advocate Volunteer – These volunteers visit patients and families throughout the hospital to check in on their experience, offer support, and help resolve concerns by connecting them with the appropriate staff members.

OSF Peace Meal

Be a volunteer for the OSF Peace Meal Senior Nutrition Program. We serve Champaign, DeWitt, Ford, Iroquois, McLean, Piatt and Livingston counties. There are one time only volunteer opportunities as well as once a week, a few times a week, or you can be placed on a list to be contacted when needed. We are open Monday through Friday throughout the year.

OSF Peace Meal Volunteer Opportunities

• Meal Delivery- Will assist drivers with delivering meals to seniors’ homes and congregate sites between 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Independent routes are also available, but volunteer must use their own vehicle and have a valid driver’s license. Mileage reimbursement optional.
• Kitchen- Will assist with meal preparation at either the Rantoul or Bloomington kitchen between the hours of 6:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m. Activities may include bagging bread, cupping fruit, cleaning dishes, etc. Some heavy lifting may be required (up to 10 lbs.)
• Congregate Site Assistant- Will help serve meals to and oversee activities with seniors from 10 a.m. –2 p.m. at any of our site locations within our seven counties.
• Clerical Assistant (Bloomington only) - Hours are flexible based on availability of volunteer. Duties may include answering phones, photo-copying, addressing and mailing letters, and updating our data platform.
