When it's time to deliver, our highly trained staff of physicians, nurses and care professionals will provide you with the exceptional quality care you deserve. We are confident that you will love your experience at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center because our care exceeds the target goal in nearly every category measured by the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
Leapfrog is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement forward in the quality and safety of American health care.
“Having a baby is one of life’s most exciting experiences, and with nine months to plan, families can take the time they need to choose the best hospital for delivery,” according to Leapfrog. “It’s important to pay attention to a hospital’s rate of C-sections, early elective deliveries and episiotomies …”
On the most recent survey, OSF St. Joseph scored better than the targeted goal for the percentage of C-sections performed, early elective deliveries and screenings to protect your baby.
Blue Distinction Center+
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois has recognized OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center with the Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care designation as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program.

As part of our commitment to the Bloomington-Normal region, OSF St. Joseph now offers around the clock neonatology care by experienced neonatology experts from OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.
These specialists provide the highest level of expertise around-the-clock for all of our newborns, and will do so throughout your newborn’s stay in our Birthing Center. This added level of expert care allows babies who may have been transferred to OSF Children’s Hospital in the past to remain right here close to home in the nursery at OSF St. Joseph.
Your pediatrician will begin seeing your baby following their discharge from the hospital.
If your baby needs to be transferred to OSF Children’s Hospital, you can take comfort as a parent knowing they will receive consistent and high-quality care right here close to home in central Illinois – no need to travel to Chicago or St. Louis.
Pediatric Specialty Clinics
Patients can receive the same state-of-the-art care from OSF Children’s Hospital doctors they’ve come to trust, closer to home with our outpatient clinics in Bloomington.
Our outpatient clinics feature cardiology, surgery, urology, gastroenterology and maternal fetal medicine.
As a Baby-Friendly Hospital, OSF St. Joseph is dedicated to giving all mothers the information, confidence and skills necessary to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies or feeding formula safely and gives special recognition to hospitals that have done so.
In addition to our nursing staff, we have a board-certified lactation consultant and a certified lactation specialist who are here to assist with breastfeeding.
Choosing to breastfeed can be one of the most important decisions a mother makes to protect their baby's health and well-being. We offer outpatient appointments and also a new, innovative TeleLactation service.
We offer Bella Baby Photography at some of our birthing centers to take a variety of photos of your family and new baby. We encourage you to use our online photo service to privately release those first precious glimpses out to family and friends.
With your consent, a professional photographer will post the photos online. A custom slideshow is available for your viewing shortly after your session.
Online viewing and ordering is password protected and only available to those you choose to share your access code with. The slideshow will be available for viewing for 14 days after the photos are taken.
The goal of the OB Nurse Navigator Program is to help expectant moms feel confident and comfortable before the big day arrives.
When an expectant mom chooses to join the program, she will be assigned her own personal nurse navigator. Beginning at 20 weeks the navigators act as a personal guide for expectant parents.
