Radiology (X-Ray)

xray Radiology is the oldest form of imaging, using small amounts of radiation to produce images from within the body. With the installation of digital technology, images are produced and visualized immediately.

This allows us to pass information on to our radiologists more efficiently and decrease the patient's time in the x-ray room. OSF St. Mary Medical Center offers general radiography procedures including x-rays of the chest, abdomen, spine and extremities.

Specialized exams are also done in our radiology department. These exams are performed using fluoroscopy and a type of "contrast." A radiologist administers barium to visualize the intestines (UGI or colon).

They also supervise an injection of iodinated contrast to view the urinary system (IVP), or inject joints such as the shoulder (arthrogram). OSF St. Mary Medical Center also offers many other specialty radiology exams for which specific information is provided to the patient at the time of scheduling.

Outpatient Medical Imaging Department
