Team Approach

Advances in surgery, radiation therapy and medical oncology have offered hope for millions of people with cancer.

But as a result, the complexity of care necessary to achieve the best outcomes has increased significantly. Multidisciplinary Care Teams (MDCs) are the best approach to manage this complexity.

By leveraging cancer experts in every specialty of medicine and incorporating supportive oncology services throughout the treatment process, we can ensure that patients are connected with the best care at the time that they need it most.

Patients whose case is discussed by a multidisciplinary care team will have their chart prepared by a cancer nurse navigator with experience in their particular disease.

Their case will be discussed by a panel of providers, including representatives from the oncology specialties of surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology and radiology.

Supportive oncology services are a core function of our cancer program. Dietitians, social workers and case managers are present during the cancer conference.

At OSF Saint Francis, our goal is to ensure that patients and their families are quickly connected with the treatment and supportive care resources they need to fight cancer.
