What is a brain tumor?

A brain tumor starts when brain cells grow uncontrollably, forming a mass. There are two types. The first is a primary brain tumor that starts with abnormal brain cells. The second is a metastatic or secondary tumor, that begins as cancer in another part of the body and spreads to the brain.

Your brain tumor treatment may include observation, surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Some brain cancer surgeries, like stereotactic radiosurgery, are non-invasive and painless, using focused radiation to target the tumor while protecting surrounding tissue.
