Professional lab services accessible 24/7

At OSF Saint Clare, we understand that testing can’t always be done during regular office hours. That’s why we offer testing 24 hours a day for emergencies. You can feel confident in the skill and accuracy of the laboratory professional pathologists, medical technologists and technicians.

What kinds of tests are available?

Lab Photo Our laboratory offers testing in chemistry, hematology, microbiology and urinalysis, coagulation, immunohematology and serology.

Transfusion services are also offered. Most testing is completed at OSF Saint Clare and results sent directly to the ordering physician that day.

Pathology services and reference laboratory testing is provided through contractual arrangements.

Staffing and accreditation

The Laboratory Services staff consists of highly trained, compassionate individuals including board-certified pathologists and medical technologists and technicians.

OSF Saint Clare laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and provides services for inpatients, outpatients and the specialized needs of skilled nursing facilities. CAP conducts an extensive and rigorous inspection every two years to ensure that all necessary guidelines are being followed by the hospital laboratory. To maintain an accredited status with CAP,  the Laboratory must adhere to regulations governing quality assurance, credentialing of staff, and competency of staff through continuing education and competency testing.

Outpatient hours

Lab Photo The laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Outpatient hours are:

Monday-Thursday, 6:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
Friday, 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday, 6:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

  • How long do I need to fast for?

  • Fasting glucose: 10-12 hour fast

    Lipid Profile: 12-14 hour fast

  • Do you have my order?
  • All orders are kept in laboratory registration.

  • Do I need to register before I come to the lab?
  • Registration is required for all patients.

  • When will my doctor get results?

  • Your results are faxed to your doctor as soon as the tests are complete. Some lab tests are sent out to our reference lab and will take a couple of days to complete

  • Can you provide me a copy of my results?
  • Medical Records are located in the Health Information Management office located in the lower level. They will provide any copies of lab results requested. Another great way to access your results is by taking advantage of OSF MyChart.
