If your baby needs extra support after delivery, you'll have immediate access to advanced neonatal intensive care. OSF Children’s Hospital offers both a Level III and a Level IV NICU, the highest level of newborn intensive care. Yes. International board-certified lactation consultants are available during your hospital stay and after discharge to support your breastfeeding goals and answer questions. We are committed to supporting skin-to-skin bonding and breastfeeding whenever possible during delivery and recovery.
How long you and your baby stay in the hospital depends on your delivery and recovery needs. Many families stay one-two days after a vaginal delivery and two-three days after a C-section birth. Your OB/GYN and care team will help guide you and let you know when you can safely come home.

Yes. Families are welcome to bring expressed colostrum to the hospital. Donor breast milk is also available through the OSF Breastfeeding Resource Center and in emergency situations through Labor and Delivery triage, including nights, weekends and holidays.
