Mike Cruz, M.D.  - President

Dr. Cruz directs operations at OSF Saint Francis to ensure the facility performs with clinical excellence and financial responsibility while fulfilling the strategy of OSF HealthCare.

Dr. Cruz started with OSF Saint Francis in 1987 as a resident in the emergency medicine program. He was hired as an emergency medicine attending physician in 1990, was vice chairman of the department for a decade, and continues there in a limited role to stay better connected with caregivers and patients. In September 2007, Dr. Cruz was appointed Vice President, Quality & Safety for OSF Saint Francis and began serving as the Associate Chief Medical Officer. He chairs the OSF Saint Francis Quality & Safety Board and the OSF Saint Francis Professional Staff Quality Improvement Committee.

He has been involved with research projects at the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Peoria (UICOMP) and three times was named outstanding UICOMP teacher. Additionally, Dr. Cruz serves on the OSF Saint Francis and Community Institutional Review Boards and is a board member for the Saint Francis Community Clinic and Easter Seals.

Dr. Cruz earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana and medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine – Chicago.


Robert Anderson - Chief Operating Officer & Executive Vice President

Bob Anderson joined OSF HealthCare in 1981 as a Medical Technologist in the Laboratory at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.  Bob held various positions in the laboratory becoming Director of Laboratory Services in 1987 and Corporate Director of Laboratories for OSF Healthcare in 1998.  In 2005 Bob moved to Administration as the Vice President of Technical and Support services.  In 2011 Bob accepted the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

A graduate of Eureka College, Bob obtained his Masters Degree in Health Services Administration from the College of Saint Francis in Joliet Illinois in 1995.  In 2012 he earned his Fellow credential in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

A lifelong Central Illinois resident, Bob was named a Top 40 under 40 leader in Peoria, he has served on the Boards of a number of Peoria non-profit organizations including: Family House, the Heart of Illinois United Way, Peoria Hospitals Mobile Medical Services, and the Central Illinois American Red Cross.

Robert Sparrow, M.D., FASH - Vice President, Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Sparrow's focus is on the quality and safety of the care our patients receive.  He is the responsible liaison between the hospital and its 850 member medical staff, credentialing of physicians, staff discipline, administration of medical education programs in the institution, and compliance and quality improvement issues affecting physicians.   

Dr. Sparrow has been with OSF Saint Francis Medical Center since 1984, serving in various roles, including the Medical Director of the Hypertension Center and as President of the Medical Staff. Prior to his current role, he was also in practice with RenalCare Associates for 32 years. He is also a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where he earned his medical degree.

Dr. Sparrow completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a nephrology fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He’s a certified specialist in clinical hypertension, and is a founding member of the American Society of Hypertension.


Jennifer Hopwood, Vice President Patient Care, Chief Nursing Officer

Jennifer is responsible for planning, directing and evaluating the operations of the patient services division and ensuring the provision of proficient nursing care services.

Jennifer began her career in nursing as a registered nurse in the Intermediate Medical Surgical Care and Surgical Intensive Care Units at OSF Saint Francis. She has also served as a patient care manager, director and executive director in various departments at OSF. As executive director of Tele Health Services, she helped to develop the program's strategy and recommended future TeleHealth services to be offered at OSF HealthCare.

Jennifer has a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing Systems Administration, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She is a recipient of the Peoria area 40 Leaders Under Forty Award, Central Illinois 25 Women in Leadership, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, American College of Healthcare Executives, American Organization of Nurse Executives (ANCC), and Board Certified Nurse Executive, ANCC.


David Stenerson - Chief Financial Officer

David is responsible for organizing, directing and evaluating the provision of the medical center's financial, information and business services. David has a strong background in health care finance. He has been serving OSF since 2006 where he started as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. Prior to joining OSF HealthCare, David was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Ephraim McDowell Health, Inc. in Danville, Kentucky.

David has a bachelor's degree in Hospital Administration and Hospital Financial Management from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. He earned his Master of Health Care Administration at the University of Minnesota.
