Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN)

Registered Nurses are the heroes of their domain. The know how and when to take care of some of the most critically ill and injured patients in a hospital setting. Now, take these heroes and turn them in to warriors! This is what makes a PHRN. An RN with a drive and a passion to take their knowledge, skill and experience on the road and directly to the people who need it.

During the PHRN course at ECIEMS, practitioners will learn basics of emergency care and how to apply their current skill sets to the pre-hospital environment. Upon successful completion of the course, the PHRN candidate will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic - Assessment examination. Successful completion of this exam is required for licensure.

Who should take this course?

  • Current and valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse
  • Experience in a Critical Care Unit or Emergency Department
  • A letter of support from a system approved ;Advanced Life Support (ALS) agency confirming placement for pre-hospital clinical and field internship.
