Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN)
Registered Nurses are the heros of their domain. The know how and when to take care of some of the most critically ill and injured patients in a hospital setting. Now, take these heros and turn them in to worriors! This is what makes a PHRN. An RN with a drive and a passion to take their knowlege, skill and experience on the road and directly to the people who need it. During the PHRN course at ECIEMS, practicioners will learn basics of emergency care and how to apply their current skillsets to the prehospital enviroment. Upon successful completion of the course, the PHRN candidate will be eligible to sit for the National Registry Paramedic - Assessment examination. Successful completion of this exam is required for licensure.
Who should take this course?
- Current and valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse
- Experience in a Critical Care Unit or Emergency Department
- A letter of support from a system approved Advanced Life Support (ALS) agency confirming placement for prehospital clinical and field internship.

How can I register for this program?
Due to a recent change in the EMS Act related to PHRN testing requirements, we are currently reviewing and revising the PHRN program to ensure candidates are appriately prepared to attempt the Paramedic level assessment testing.
