The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology provides consultative and continuing care to children with potential or established endocrine disorders on referral from a primary care provider.
Problems appropriately referred to the endocrinology service include:
- Thyroid disorders
- Disorders of sexual differentiation, sexual development or puberty
- Growth disorders
- Disorders of calcium metabolism , diabetes insipidus , diabetes mellitus or other disorders of energy metabolism
Common conditions, such as short stature and obesity, should be referred when the primary care evaluation has suggested the possibility of an endocrine cause. In concert with the Pediatric Diabetes Resource Center , the division provides comprehensive self-management training to families of children with diabetes mellitus.
